Task 1: Research Tips

1.Use quotation marks around phrase to find results with that exact wording.	“blended learning”
2. Limit a search to a particular website by beginning your search with “site:”	site:nytimes.com flipped classroom

3. Find websites with a specific word in the title by starting with “intitle:”	intitle:photosynthesis
4. Search for related words that are similar by adding a tilde (~) before the word. example	desert ~ecosystem

Task 2: Review Core Final Digital Portfolio

Part I

Digital Portfolio

Due: May 15th

(*Early submits will be eligible for extra credit!)

This year has flown by! The work you have done spans a wide range of written and digital pieces. To demonstrate your growth and development as a student, you will compile an impressive collection of work into a digital portfolio. This portfolio should demonstrate extensive revision and reflection. It is important that you begin to establish a digital footprint that reflects your abilities as a student and potential college or job applicant.

I want to be WOWed!

You will create a website to be the home of your digital portfolio. You can select the website creator that you are most comfortable with:

• Google sites
• Wix
• Weebly
• Other?

This website should represent the wonderfully, wacky person you are with graphics, images and colors that you identify with. Your personal style and aesthetic should add to the originality of the site, but it should not distract from the content. For example, you will want to keep the font style easy to read and consistent throughout the site.

Contents:

Digital Writing

You will need a minimum of one piece for each of the following genres for writing:

• Argument writing
• Informational writing
• Business Letter/Cover Letter (from Career Exploration)
• Resume
• Strongest Holocaust Diary Entry
• Most impressive vocabulary story
• Most impression online discussion contribution
• Most impressive StudySync writing assignment

*If you forgot all the writing you have done, see the list at the bottom of this sheet!

Digital Pieces

You will also need a minimum of three digital pieces:

• Digital Narrative - Original Tale for Canterbury Tales
• Infographic - 1st semester core final
• Expert Group Presentations for Of Mice and Men
• iMotion HD Globe Construction

Artwork

One page of your website must be dedicated to sharing photos of your artwork.

Ideas:

• Photos of acting
• Globe Theatre
• I Never Saw Another Butterfly Activity
• SSR project visual
• Instagram sensory detail pics

Editing and Revising

Each piece must reflect your abilities as a writer and student NOW. This means you will need to edit and revise EACH piece to reflect growth and development.

Reflective Blog Posts

As you work, you will need to post a series of 5 separate (approximately 1 per week) blog posts spanning the length of your work on this project. Each blog post should reflect on the work you have done on your portfolio to that point.

• What aspects of your writing or work have dramatically improved?
• Which pieces were the most enjoyable or most challenging to work on?
• What elements were missing from previous pieces that you were able to add?
• Can you see your growth and development as you work on older pieces?

I’m interested in quality, not quantity on these blogs. You are welcome to include images and pictures if you want.

*Note: Your 5th and final blog should be a reflection on this class.

Task 3: Core Final Infomercial or Google Presentation

Remember you need to SKILLFULLY combine information from your research, interview, observation, etc. into your presentation.

Presentations should be 3-4 minutes and provide a comprehensive overview of your chosen career.

• Title Page: your name, class and name of your researched career
• Prior impressions
• Education - degrees, field of study, certifications,  specialized training
• Needed skills
• Typical daily tasks
• Challenges & rewards (monetary and non-monetary)
• Job Realities - What is the job really like compared to your impressions?
• Personal Reflection - Do you still plan to pursue this career?

Option 1: Informercial (Uploaded to YouTube)

(*infomercial = a long commercial that informs in an original and entertaining manner)

Take everything you have done (research, interview and observation) and create an infomercial for your career. Get creative with your infomercial -- include audio clips from your interview, pictures from your observations, statistics and research about your chosen career, action, and music!

Option 2: Google Presentation

Take everything you have done (research, interview and observation) and create a presentation for others interested in pursuing this career. Include quotes from your interview, pictures from your observations, statistics and research. Include a complete works cited on your final slide. Your job is to engage your audience with a dynamic presentation since you will be limited in terms of media.
