Sign into your Gmail account and organize your files/documents
- Class Folders - Create a folder for each class if you have not done so already
- You can even color code your folders. i.e. English = yellow because it is luminescent and Tucker's favorite color. Science = green because plants are green and it's Hadley's favorite color. Purple = history because it is the color of royalty and it also happens to be Saldana's favorite color.
- Create a folder for the different types of papers and assignments:
- For English, you might have an argumentative, informative, narrative, and business writing folders. You might also have a folder labeled projects.
New Email Account (10)
Using another browser (Chrome, Safari or Firefox), log into your new Google Apps for Education Account. See directions on the board.
- You will be prompted to change your password. I'd recommend you use the same password that you set up for your original Gmail account.
Peer Edits on The Joy Luck Club Essay (15)
You will exchange your paper with one other person. As you edit each other's papers, you will look for the following:
Necessary Elements
- Hook strategy
- Clear & complete thesis
- Topic sentences that state the main point of paragraph clearly & concisely
- Evidence in each paragraph from BOTH the novel and the film
- Analysis of how the scenes emphasized, altered or absent impact the plot (sequence of events), character development, and/or themes. They should NOT summarize plot or events in movie. Are they answering the WHY and HOW?
- Conclusion that restates main points and answers the "so what"? Think about what you learned about film adaptations for the "so what" question.
Mechanics & Formal Writing Norms
- No contractions
- No first or second person (*1st person okay in hook if it's a personal story)
- Avoid bland language...things, show, good, bad...blah
- Avoid language that makes you sound unsure...may, might, maybe
Expert Group Investigations (20)
- Begin your Google Slides presentations and share with each member of your group & me.
- Divide up slides by adding a comment to each noting who is responsible for that slide and stating the information that needs to go on that slide
- Establish font type and size (20 point font is smallest allowed) norms
- Last slide must be marked for complete works cited.
