Romeo and Juliet
Soundtrack Project
You will be creating a soundtrack for Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, based on your knowledge of the characters, events, themes, emotions, and pacing of the play.  Your soundtrack should consist of a total of 26 songs.  You must assign a song to each scene of each act (including the prologues) based on your interpretation of that scene.
You will need to post a 3-5 sentence well-written paragraph analyzing how the song you chose matches the scene.   You may choose any type of music for your soundtrack. You will be graded on the quality of your textual evidence and the depth of your analysis. You can use instrumental music or music with lyrics (or a combination of both) in this assignment; however, you must be specific in your explanation of why you chose a particular song.  This may be easier to do if you have lyrics you can quote and use to support your explanation. You should explain why you chose each song:
  • Did you connect the song to a theme in the scene?
  • Does the song describe the emotions in that particular scene or evoke a similar
              feeling in you?
  • Did the song mirror the action in the play?
  • Does the pacing of the song match that of the scene?

Act and Scene Breakdown:
Prologue
Act one (scene 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Act two (prologue, scene 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
Act three (scene 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Act four (scene 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
Act five (scene 1, 2, 3)
Extra-Credit opportunities:
  • You can creative cover for your soundtrack with imagery on one side and song titles on back.
  • You can make an actual CD of your soundtrack, create a playlist on Spotify, or find another creative way to share your music with me.
  • You can individually or collaboratively create an original score, perform and record a song for your soundtrack.
